Permadri

What is permadri 1000?
Permadri 1000 is a unique coated steel sheet with a moisture-absorbing fibre fabric on the underside and is only available from Planwell Roofing Supplies of Buckie.

Permadri 1000 is ideal for...
Permadri 1000 box profile roof sheeting is used for roofs which can be subject to condensation on the underside and therefore prevents dripping.

Typical buldings are:-
  • Uninsulated Warehouses (Agricultural and Industrial)
  • Garages

What is condensation
Air is a mixture of gases. There is always vapour in the air, and there is more of it when the temperature is high. When the vapour meets a cold surface it condenses into water.
Condensation always occurs when the surface temperature decreases below the so called dew point.

When does condensation occur?
Condensation is a problem especially in unheated halls, uninsulated roofs, open roofs etc. In insulated buildings condensation is usually prevented by a sufficient layer of insulation, so the surface temperature does not decrease below the dew point.

In uninsulated buildings condensation occurs during quick changes in weather. The surface temperature of e.g. a steel roof, may, due to rain or heat rediation during the night, fall as much as 5°C below the inside temperature.

These circumstances do not usually last long. The problems caused by condensation can easily be prevented by Planwell's Permadri 1000 Anti-condensation Roof Sheeting.

ANTI-CONDENSATION SHEETING
Planwell's Permadri anti-condensation coating is an effective solution to condensation problems. The material is coated on the steel sheet and it absorbs the condensation water and prevents any dripping, this is visible when the sheet colour turns from white to green. After the condensation cycle has stopped the water evaporates quickly. (This is only possible if proper ventilation has been arranged in the building). Note: In the winter months it may be necessary to open your garage doors (etc) for 1-2 hours per week to allow adequate ventilation of the building. Material consumption is 600g (standard).

ABSORPTION CAPACITY
The excellent absorbing capacity of Permadri anti-condensation coating is based on a vulcanic minerale, perlite. The structure of perlite grains is very porous. Therefore 1000g/m2 coating is able to absorb as much as 1.51/m2. Due to the capillary phenomenon water does not form drops but is spread smoothly over a wide area.

MANY APPLICATIONS
Permadri anti-condensation sheeting is widely used on roofs and interior walls of uninsulated buildings, in open roofs etc.

SAFE FOR FOOD INDUSTRY
Permadri anti-condensation does not burn or give off toxic gases. The material is water based and does not contain any unhealthy or harmful ingredients, so it can be used in food-stuff industry.

PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION
Permadri anti-condensation coating protects the sheeting against corrosion. As the condensation water is absorbed on a wide area it will not come into contact with the surfaces or structures otherwise liable to corrode. Water evaporates very quickly afterwards.

HEAT INSULATION
The thick coating balances the differences in temperature; the surface temperature of the steel sheet does not so easily decrease below the dew point. This results in less condensation. In hot days the coating decreases the heat radiation.

SOUND EFFECT DAMPENING
Permadri anti-condensation coating also has a noise reducing effect. It dampens vibration in the steel sheet and noise caused by e.g. raina and wind is reduced dramatically.

ATTRACTIVE FINISH
When dry, the coating is almost white in colour. The coated finish gives an agreeable appearance to the roof's interior. Please Note: During the condensation cycle the sheet will turn from white to green in appearance (with fabric hollding any water).

HANDLING AND INSTALLATION
Full handling and installation instructions are supplied with each order. For the product to wrk effectively, the following must however be carried out.

  • If fitting Permadri onto timber purlins then Planwell's Purlin Tape must be fitted first, this creates a barrier and stops any damp being trapped between the sheet and the timber surface.
  • The sheets must be laid with uncoated edge-overlapping the pervious sheet and the timber surface.
  • The sheets must be laid with uncoated edge-overlapping the previous sheet.
  • On low pitch roofs please spray the bottom 2-3 inches of the fabric (gutter side) with a good quality silicon sealant (ie 'Thomsons Waterseal') this prevents the fabric from drawing water out of the gutter.
  • Please ensure that the building is well ventilated, this is necessary to ensure that the absorbed moisture will in due course evaporate from the anti-condensation coating.
